Chocolate jalapeño? Now that's my kind of dessert. How 'bout filling with hard frozen chocolate ice-cream first and having Mexican Baked Alaska?

Cheers,

TOF

It reminds me of something they eat in South Africa called a koeksister - it is an Afrikaans treat. It is a deep fried doughnut (in a plait shape) which is then immediately plunged into syrup where it sits for a good long while so as to be able to totally absorb the syrup. It has got to be the most calorie laden unhealthy food on the planet. But goodness I would love one right now!

Deep fried birthday cake? Hey KCC, my birthday is coming up next month. Is there any chance I can get that deep fried birthday cake delivered here? LOL seriously, very interesting fried foods, despite the fact that they're likely to play havoc on my blood pressure and cholesterol LOL.

cindyvine 2 years ago

Have to say in Thailand I had deep fried icecream, and my son tried the deep fried locust and cockroaches! He said they tasted just lke BBQ chicken!

KCC Big Country 2 years ago

TOF, so glad to see you! I think the combination of chocolate and jalapeno would be awesome, I just don't think you'd want to eat more than one. I kinda like the idea of filling it with chocolate ice cream. Mexican Baked Alaska...that's cute.

Catherine: That is an interesting sounding item as well. I'm not a big syrup fan so I think I'll have to pass on it. :)

Emievil: The fried birthday cake has to be awesome, don't you think? Maybe I can ship you one. I bet kids go nuts for it at the fair.

Cindy! Good to see you too! I too have had fried ice cream years ago, it was pretty good. I think I'd have to skip the locust and cockroaches! I'll stick with the real BBQ chicken for that BBQ chicken taste. LOL

Thank you all for stopping by!

Thanks alekhouse, from what I understand, he took Coke syrup and deep fried it (simllar to a filling in a donut).

KCC, I'll settle for the recipe =). Maybe I can get somebody to imitate that here =).

Like Reba McIntire said " If it ain't fried it ain't food". LOL, great article KCC.

LOL...I hear you fortunerep! When I was reading this to my daughter, we had to stop and go make a batch of muffins.

It sounded pretty simple, emievil. There is a box cake mix that's called Funfetti. I'm assuming that's the one they mean. I would think you just make the cake as usual (without icing it), cut it into squares, dip it funnel cake batter (we sell that here in tall cylinder cans) and deep fry it. If you don't have a deep fryer, there are some lovely models above from Amazon. ;) Then drizzle some icing on it and call it done.

Mardi, that's a good ole southern gal for you! I'm telling you, we really do fry ANYTHING!

Thank you all for stopping by!

Wow. My girlfriend just the other day talked me into trying fried ice-cream just the other day and boy am I hooked. I'm not sure if I'll the other stuff, but I'm sure it's delicious, mal-nutritious, yet absolutely divine to taste...I'll ask my doctor if it's okay first, LOL. Thanks, KCC Big Country! You share some of the coolest topics!

Fried ice cream is pretty darn good, isn't it? I've had it a couple of times. Yeah, you have to forget about the calories and artery-clogging properties and just enjoy it every now and then, Dohn. LOL Glad you enjoyed the topic.

I received an email today from someone who tried to locate the Fried Birthday Cake at the fair and couldn't find it. I have rechecked my sources and some of the menu items have changed since I wrote this hub. It appears that some vendors must have changed their minds about what to make after the fair began. I'll try to update this hub with the new food choices by listed an "UPDATE".

You inspired me to write a suggestion hub for the 2010 State Fair called Fried Gravy! Go put in your two cents worth and vote for what those whacky guys should cook this year!

This hub makes me want to eat some fried pies. Think I will go and have one now! LOL

KCC Big Country 2 years ago

Hey, cool, Austinstar! I'll have to check it out! A fried pie does sound pretty good!

Rochelle Frank 2 years ago

Our fair this year had fried artichoke hearts. Those might be to healthy for some people since it contains an actual vegetable. I heard they were really good. I'm thinking they must be a bit like Japanese tempura veggies.

KCC Big Country 2 years ago

You're not selling me on it, Rochelle. LOL I bet the line wouldn't be a long one compared to fried pies. Thanks for stopping by!
