Cool and Unusual Alarm Clocks
81I'm one of the fortunate people that doesn't really need an alarm to wake up. No matter what time I go to bed, I can almost always wake up when I'm supposed to. I do still set the alarm just in case and there have been the odd exceptions that would certainly have caused chaos without a trusty alarm.
My daughter and my husband sleep through anything. Alarms do not work for them at all. I am their alarm. Without me, neither of them would arrive anywhere on time. People like them are annoyance to people like me. Of course, I guess that means I'm as equally annoying to them.
I stumbled upon a really neat alarm clock a few months ago which led me to a number of discoveries that I thought you'd be interested in as well.
These unusual alarm clocks will make great Christmas gifts for those hard-to-buy-for people on your Christmas list.
Clocky Alarm Clock by Nanda Home Inc.
This is the alarm clock I discovered first. It is called Clocky. You have the option of allowing one snooze or no snoozes. If you choose no snooze, when your alarm goes off Clocky will jump, yes jump, off your nightstand up to 3 feet high and run around your bedroom. Hopefully you don't keep a glass of water or a prize lamp next to your bed! I'm not real sure how Clocky keeps from landing on the bed once he jumps either. If you choose the one snooze option he will jump off the nightstand after the alarm goes off the second time. How do you silence Clocky? You have to chase him down all while he's beeping like the robotic R2D2 from Star Wars.
Cool features:
- You can turn customize the snooze time up to 9 minutes
- You can turn off Clocky's wheels on mornings you don't want to have to chase him around the room
- Clocky has a backlight to assist you in seeing him at night
- Cool colors-Raspberry, Aqua, Chrome, Cream White and Coco
Laser Target Alarm Clock
The Laser Target Alarm Clock will not stop until you successfully hit the center of the target. This cute target has a laser beam aimed at the center. I don't know about you, but this would could take me a while to hit. It didn't seem like this alarm was very loud from watching the demonstration of this one on YouTube.
Flying Alarm Clock
When the alarm goes off on the Flying Alarm Clock the helicopter flies into the air. The helicopter carries the key away that you need to silence the alarm. You're forced to get out of bed to find it.
Wacky Alarm Clocks found at Ubergizmo
The following clocks were found on Ubergizmo.
- The Puzzle Alarm Clock-This clock has four puzzle pieces that sit on top of the clock. These pieces are automatically ejected when the alarm goes off. You are not able to quiet the incessant wailing until you find all four pieces and place them back where they belong.
- The Finger Dance Alarm Clock-The Finger Dance Alarm Clock seems to be fashioned after the ever-popular Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) game. It features a small dance floor designed for your fingers to tap out the light sequence in order to shut off the alarm. The alarm will continue to sound until you have correctly mimicked the sequence.
- Dynamite Alarm Clock-This colorful clock requires quick reflexes to 'defuse' it. Otherwise it begins to let out a really explosive wail sure to wake up even the neighbors.
Sleeptracker Alarm Clock
This one is one of my favorites. The SleepTracker is worn like a watch with several style to chose from.
Sleeptracker monitors your sleep cycles for optimal waking moments during the preset alarm window. It determines those almost awake moments and gently wakes you up when you're most alert. This allows you to wake up refreshed instead of groggy.

Demonstrations
I found all of the above mentioned clocks, except the FInger Dance Clock, on YouTube if you'd like to see how any of them work. I didn't include the videos here since many of them were home movies where people fail to realize how long a minute is when videotaping. Most of them had about a minute's worth of awkward silence while waiting on the alarm to go off. But, I encourage you to watch the videos of the models you like. There are several cute videos with dogs reacting to Clocky.

These clocks are amazing.. I have to wake up to music.. buzzers set me off all wrong. Maybe one of the clockies with a long cord tied to my son's toe?
KCC - Great hub!! We are very similar I have my own internal alarm. I used to set an alarm clock just in case but don't do that anymore. I had a radio and always set it to the alarm not the music function. I am also the proud owner of a golf clock that yells, "Wake up wake up your gonna miss your tee time." I couldn't take it after the third morning.
Glad that, like you, I don't need to use alarm clocks anymore, although the Sleeptracker looks interesting. I won't tell you what my husband would do with any number of these clocks! :-) Great info here. Thanks.
Help! I need a clock to tip a pail of water on my son to wake him up in time! Any thing out there?
Very interesting article. I know someone with the helicopter alarm clock - it is quite amusing. Also the dynamite alarm clcok reminds me of one the Colonel had in the UK cartoon Dennis the Menace. However that relied on real dynamite!
AAAAAA!!!! This was awesome, but...like so many other MOMS out there, I need no alarm clock. well...usally...I never go anywhere over night becuase I have witnessed my husband and all 3 kids sleep thru the smoke alarm. FRIGHTENING!! I am 100% sure, there is nothing that would wake them up, other then me(or some other poor sap) shaking them violently to get up. Reallly, I had no idea such advances had been made in the clock world. Who knows? maybe I will get a vacation one day?
What fun. We have an old gem that came in a cornflakes box. It still runs and keeps perfect time. The alarm though, resembling a crowing rooster (of course) is really obnoxious, lol.
Oh the joys of being retired and free from the tyranny of alarm clocks. I just knew there were some benefits to retirement Lol. I would hate having to chase my clock around in order to shut it up, I don't think it would be the way I would want to start my day but I enjoyed reading about these most unusual alarms. When ever I see you have written a new hub I know that I am in for a treat, and as usual I was not disappointed.
My problem is not having or wanting an awesome alarm clock, the problem I would never get to use one...I am the worse insomniac, I think. I do love this hub though, and I am awesomely interested in the 'dynamite' alarm clock. I like that one!
Yes and CONGRATS on being featured in the HUBWEEKLY! w00t!
-sparkles all around, taking a swig from a beer can left from last Fridays LAN party, ewww...a cigarette was put out in it :p but to celebrate you, I sipped it again anyways!-
Keep keepin on!
Hello, KCC! Boy, are these hysterical! Clocky reminds me of a clock I gave a friend of mine that went boing boing boing jumping on the table when it turned on, and it was padded so if it fell to the floor it still kept jumping and ringing. Mama mia, what a horrible little gadget, but it made my sides hurt from laughing!
Now, I have a feeling I know exactly how the laser clock may end up turned off in most instances: by being thrown agaist the nearest wall!
I had great fun with this hub, KCC -- visited right after reading your interview ;-) Cool-i-o!
Great hub!
I bought my brother an alarm clock for his birthday which makes the most awful noise and rumbles the matress, too. It takes a bomb to get him out of bed!
I like these alarms! hmmm, good gifts for teenaged kids. lol
I wrote about the flying alarm clock at no. 7 here:
Great hub KCC! I want one! LOL I think the finger dance one would be fun to wake up with. Thanks for the info!
Nice alarm clocks and a good product review.
Where were these when my daughter was in high school. She would set 2 alarm clocks to wake her up and I still had to go up and make sure she was out of bed. These are great!
The finger dance alarm clock is pretty awesome, although it couple be highly annoying on those mornings where you are extra grumpy and just want to slap a button to go back to snoozing. Overall, some very fun designs though!
Great lens and I love the various designs of the clocks, so cool.
I'm the morning person, but hubby needs one of those clocks with a jack-hammer
Awesome alarm clocks! I suppose they were invented especially for people who are hard to wake on mornings.

Nice!!! I also have the additions to the list of the one that runs away from you, says rude things to get you out of bed and of course shaped like a baseball...no harm done when you throw it (except possibly to the wall). Great new selections to add to any collection.
I collect for novelty, since like you my inner alarm sounds and I wake at whatever time I preset in my head.
