The Attic in Las Vegas
72When most people think of Las Vegas, they probably think of flashy casinos, elaborate shows, and The Strip. I'm here to tell you that there is so much more to do in Vegas.
When researching online for local attractions for a recent visit to I was planning to Las Vegas, I came across a listing under the Shopping category on Vegas.com that is called "Weird, Wacky and Wonderful". Who can resist a category like that? I clicked on it and The Attic was the first listing. After visiting their website, I promptly added a visit to The Attic to my list of "must do" things for my visit to Vegas. It just sounded too hip to resist.
Bet you're dying to know what The Attic is and where you can find it. It is a packed-to-the-brim vintage clothing boutique that is located in the Arts District of downtown Las Vegas. They are housed in a temporary location directly across the street from their permanent location at 1018 S. Main Street, while it is being remodeled. Their temporary space is only about a third of the size of their permanent location which adds to the packed, yet stylish conditions. It's just minutes from anywhere you might stay on The Strip or downtown. It's easy to find even for a first time visitor like myself.
My daughter and I set off Saturday around lunch to pay The Attic a visit. We were met at the door by the owner Mayra who welcomed us with a warm smile and hello that was quickly followed with a welcome from Alex. On this particular day, Alex was playing multiple roles. He was cashier, disc jockey and curator for the boutique. We found him to be warm and friendly as well.
We spent a good amount of time at The Attic visiting with Alex as we rummaged through racks of colorful clothes, shoes, and accessories. Alex knew the story behind some of the pieces and he willingly shared the information. The glittery black and silver sequined jacket you see below was worn by a Cher impersonator.
Every nook and cranny was filled with wigs, shoes, purses, belts, ties, etc. You could spend days there and not see everything they have to offer.
The Attic in a Visa Commercial
The Attic was featured in a Visa "Everywhere You Want To Be" commercial that first aired during the final episode of Seinfeld in May 1998. See the commercial below.

On a recent trip to Las Vegas, my daughter and I spent a few hours just riding around. We had the rental car gassed up and we wanted to see something other than The Strip. We found ourselves in the downtown...

I've been to Las Vegas often, but I've never seen the Attic. It sounds like an extremely cool place and I hope I can get back to see it sometime soon!
