Flamingo

By

It seems just about everyone has a favorite animal they love to collect. For instance, some people like to collect anything with a panda on it, or maybe frogs. Some like pigs or puppy dogs. What is it that you like to collect? What if you don't have a favorite animal motif? Have you ever considered a flamingo?

Growing in popularity is the pink flamingo. Look around, you'll find pink flamingos on everything! If they aren't your "thing" you probably haven't noticed them, but I bet you begin to.

Flamingos are often depicted in tropical settings giving us that sense of relaxation. Maybe when we see them we daydream about a tropical vacation to some exotic location.

They also seem to be a symbol of grace with their tall lanky legs that they sometimes perch. Don't forget their beautiful pink or peachy color and long slender necks.

I've assembled some of my favorite flamingo products. I hope you'll enjoy them.

Pink Flamingo Lawn Ornaments or Yard Stakes

The pink plastic flamingos has become one of the most famous lawn ornaments in the United States. This plastic masterpiece was designed in 1957 by Don Featherstone who was working for Union Products at the time. He won the Ig Nobel Prize for Art for his pink flamingos in 1996. Starting with the 30th anniversary in 1987, Don Featherstone’s signature can be located on the rear underside of the flamingo if it’s an original. The originals were always sold in pairs. One flamingo stood upright, while the other was bent down feeding.

Have you ever seen a lawn covered in them? They were probably the “victim” of what is known as a “lawn greeting”. After dark, someone or a group of people will plant the flamingos in someone’s yard. This person now has to do the same to get rid of them. They are passed from victim to victim.

I noticed the Halloween variety pictured here this past Halloween. It is a black flamingo with the skeleton in white. I look for them to increase in popularity.

Flamingo Jewelry

You can find a variety of flamingo necklaces, earrings, and watches in all prices ranges that make perfect gifts for the girls in your life that collect flamingos.

They also make great gifts for someone who thinks she has everything. Chances are, unless she collects flamingos, she probably doesn't have a flamingo necklace or flamingo earrings.

Pair a colorful flamingo watch with a cute crisp sundress and she'll be fashionably cute this summer.

Be sure to let the world know you love pink flamingos by displaying a pink flamingo car decal or window sticker on the back glass of your RV or car.

What a cute hub! Talk about niche marketing. Well, I do like pink flamingos and I am tempted to buy some. They would add some color to a dreary winter yard for sure.

Thanks 4 writing this. We decorate our travel trailer with flamingo lights when we go camping. Would never have thought of making a hub about them. Very cool.

Thanks susansisk! I think they make adorable RV lights. Gives it that extra vacation feel. (Think about other things like this that you hadn't thought about writing a hub about, and get to writing!) :)
