America's Best Dance Crew (ABDC)-Season 4-Episode 5 Review
69America's Best Dance Crew, Season 4, Episode 5 has us down to 5 crews. They are:
- Afroborike
- We Are Heroes
- Massive Monkees
- Rhythm City
- Vogue Evolution
This week's challenge was the Dance Craze challenge. Each group was assigned a new dance craze that they had to incorporate into their routine. To make it just that bit more challenging they had to incorporate a trampoline into their routine. ABDC has installed a small trampoline into the floor of the stage.
Mario Lopez announced that either Afroborike or Vogue Evolution was in the bottom two and subject to elimination this week. It was Vogue Evolution. Afroborike went on to perform first and are guaranteed a spot in next week's competition.
He later announced that We Are Heroes would also be in the bottom two for possible elimination.
In the order of their performances, here is my review of their performances this week.
Afroborike-Swag Surfin'
Afroborike learned that they must incorporate the Atlanta dance craze "Swag Surfin'" into their routine.
I was disappointed that they didn't include more of the challenge into their routine. The judges didn't seem to pick up on that either. I thought their performance was lively and fun and I think they did move more away from their traditional salsa style dancing. Shane loved some of the particularly sexually suggestive parts, as always. Lil' Mama was rather reserved in her comments and JC didn't seem to be that impressed and pointed out a lot of the flaws in their routine.
Massive Monkees
Massive Monkees had to incorporate "Do the Ricky Bobby" into their routine. "Do the Ricky Bobby" is a southern dance craze inspired by the movie "Talladega Nights". It involves a lot of arm movements that end with striking a pose.
I think the Massive Monkees gave us one of their best performances. it was energetic and they included props such as a fire extinguisher and a Polaroid camera. Watching them reminds me so much of Season 2's Super Cr3w. They were very athletic in this routine and utilized the trampoline well.
The judges seemed to like their performance as well. All three judges had good things to say about them. Lil Mama thought their routine was a little slow, but I disagree. I think they kept up a great rhythm to their routine. I think their personality came through on this routine more than any other of their performances. I really expect them to be one of the top two teams in this season.

Rhythm City-"You're a Jerk" Jerkin'
Rhythm City's task was to incorporate West Coast "Jerkin'" (You're a Jerk) into their routine. One of their crew members had never seen Jerkin' and found it particularly challenging.
Their routine was entertaining as they incorporated a nerd theme. It was very similar to the style of Season 2's Fanny Pack. I think it was a cute performance, but I don't think it was an outstanding performance with regards to difficulty. Shane didn't think they incorporated enough of the jerkin' in their routine. (Wonder why he missed Afroborike's lack of the swag surfin?) JC thought they started out a little slow and it was good, but not excellent, Lil Mama thought it was the most exciting performance she had seen to this point on this episode.
We Are Heroes-Stanky Legg
We Are Heroes were given "Stanky Legg", the Texas-based dance craze to incorporate into their routine. They have been struggling with injured members and this week one of their members hit her head, requiring six stitches, while performing one of the last rehearsals before this week's show. She was advised by her doctor not to perform flips on the trampoline, but she was insistent on performing for the team. It was evidently a gamble she was willing to take.
I think they performed well, and having a catchy song helped. They incorporated some cute theatrics using a sock and their flips looked well-executed. I think they put their heart into this routine, but I don't think it was their best performance of the season.
Vogue Evolution-Halle Berry
Vogue Evolution learned that they would be incorporating the "Halle Berry" dance craze into their routine. I think this style was well suited to incorporate into their vogue style of dance. The trampoline was going to be their biggest challenge.
I personally think they handled the trampoline well. Several of the guys started out on the trampoline and I liked their dismount. I think handled the challenge well. I liked their clothing selection for this week, hot pink and purple. Their routine was fast paced and they transitioned well between stunts. I think the idea behind the ending was cute, but I don't think they executed it very well. It was a bit sloppy.
You could tell that judges had a really tough time deciding which of these two teams were going to stay and which would go home. All three judges had great things to say about both teams and their performances.
In the end, it was Vogue Evolution that went home. I was glad to see them recap their Season before letting them watch their banner fall. That's a feature I always enjoyed in past seasons. It reminds you of how far the team has come.
